Maryland Materials, Inc. was formed in the summer of 1959 when Charles (Buck) Petrillo, Sr. and his brother, Alex Petrillo, purchased a tract of land in North East, MD in the hopes of providing a close yet reliable source for their crushed stone needs to support their individual construction / concrete / hot mix companies. After core samples were taken from the parcel at what is now 233 Stevenson Road, construction of the plant began. The impending construction of nearby Interstate 95 would be their first major project. |

Maryland Materials welcomed new partners shortly after its inception – James Julian and Gene Julian – brothers who ran another construction company, James Julian, Inc. With the additional capital and experience the Julians offered, the Company flourished and managed to produce 200,000 tons of stone in their first full year of production. Today, the Company is a major supplier of crushed stone in Maryland, Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Southern New Jersey. |

Igneous formations of granite (gneiss) and traprock are the principal minerals mined from our operation. Concrete stone, hot mix stone, rip-rap (used in erosion control) and railroad ballast are just some of the materials produced at our facility. The stone mined from our location comes from one of the hardest deposits of granite on the East Coast. Through the use of our fractionated plant, we are able to offer many different product sizes that few of our competitors are able to supply. |
